Rumors: Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L/f.1.4L USM Lens Coming in Two Version

Unconfirmed reports have emerged suggesting Canon may release two versions of the highly anticipated RF 35mm f/1.2 or f/1.4L USM prime lens. The 35mm focal length remains one of the most requested lenses from Canon users.
According to rumors, Canon plans to announce two variations of the 35mm L-series lens before the end of 2023. This is the first mention of a potential dual release for this lens.
It is unclear what advantages a “defocus smoothing” version would offer at the 35mm focal length. Canon may have other differentiation plans for two 35mm primes.
The speculated maximum aperture of the 35L remains uncertain. Both f/1.2 and f/1.4 apertures have appeared in patents, leaving the final specs open to debate. At this point sources seem split 50/50 on whether it will be f/1.2 or f/1.4.
While intriguing, without further confirmation these reports remain rumors. Canon has yet to officially announce development of the RF 35mm f/1.2L/f.1.4L USM in any form. We will have to wait for more concrete details to emerge.
