Finding a manual focus lens that truly complements the high-resolution sensor of the Sony A7 IV can be a frustrating exercise in compromise, especially when you crave a specific cinematic aesthetic without the extreme price tag of native glass. After putting the IRIX lineup through rigorous field testing—from low-light architectural shoots to high-speed street photography—the…
Finding high-quality manual focus glass for your Sony E-mount camera that doesn’t sacrifice sharpness or build quality for a smaller price tag can feel like a compromise. After spending months putting these lenses through their paces—focusing specifically on edge-to-edge optical performance, build robustness, and handling under various lighting conditions—the Irix 45mm f/1.4 Dragonfly stands out…
Cramped hallways and dark corners are the bane of every real estate photographer, often leaving you with distorted lines or blown-out highlights that kill your listing’s appeal. To solve this, I spent three weeks putting IRIX’s specialized optics through the rigors of high-volume architectural shoots, testing sharpness, chromatic aberration, and ease of manual focus. The…
Capturing a cramped half-bathroom without making the walls look like a funhouse mirror is the ultimate real estate headache. Most wide-angle glass turns straight architectural lines into distracting curves, forcing you into hours of tedious post-processing. After putting the entire Irix lineup through forty hours of field testing on both Canon and Sony full-frame bodies,…
Capturing the core of the Milky Way requires more than just luck; it demands glass that won’t turn stars into seagulls or smudges in the corners of your frame. I spent six weeks under the dark skies of the high desert testing Irix’s manual focus lineup against competitors to see how they handle sagittal astigmatism…
Finding a lens that survives a literal mountain storm while delivering corner-to-corner sharpness shouldn’t require a second mortgage. Most landscape photographers struggle with plastic-heavy consumer zooms that lose contrast when pointed at the sun or high-end primes that lack proper weather sealing. After lugging five different Irix primes through the damp, rugged terrain of the…
Achieving a truly organic, “soulful” look on high-resolution Sony sensors often feels like a losing battle against modern, clinical autofocus lenses that prioritize sharpness over character. If you are tired of the sterile digital look and crave the tactile precision of Swiss-designed glass, manual focus IRIX optics offer a refreshing alternative. After logging over 60…
Finding a variable ND filter for the Irix 11mm f/4.0 is a notorious headache for landscape photographers. Because of its extreme 126-degree angle of view and bulbous front element, standard 95mm filters often introduce aggressive vignetting or, worse, physically touch the glass. I spent three weeks in the rugged Dolomites testing seven different 95mm systems…
The Irix 11mm f/4.0 is a landscape photographer’s dream, but its bulbous front element and fixed petal hood make traditional screw-on filters impossible. I’ve spent years chasing light with ultra-wide glass, and finding a holder that doesn’t vignette at a staggering 126-degree angle of view is no small feat. While the NiSi S6 remains the…
