Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L USM Lens to be Announced in April

EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM Lens

According to multiple sources familiar with Canon’s product roadmap, the highly anticipated RF 35mm f/1.4L USM lens is finally nearing its official announcement. The respected camera rumor website Canon Rumors reports that this long-awaited addition to Canon’s RF lens lineup will be unveiled next month, alongside the upcoming EOS R5 Mark II and flagship EOS R1 camera bodies.

While previous rumors suggested the RF 35mm prime could have an ultra-wide f/1.2 aperture, the latest information points to a slightly more modest f/1.4 maximum aperture. However, for most photographers, the difference between f/1.2 and f/1.4 is negligible in real-world use.

Interestingly, sources hint that the new RF 35mm f/1.4L will feature unspecified “video features,” hinting at enhanced capabilities for hybrid photo/video shooters. As a prime lens, it is unlikely to be part of Canon’s PowerZoom lineup expected to grow in 2024.

The imminent launch of this RF 35mm f/1.4L lens marks another milestone in Canon’s transition to its RF mount system for full-frame cameras. With its combination of premium optics and enhanced video tools, this lens could become a must-have for many professional photographers and videographers. Stay tuned for Canon’s official announcement next month.
