Canon EOS R6 Mark III, RF 45mm f/1.2 STM Lens Announced, Available for Pre-order !

Canon has unveiled a compelling one-two punch for hybrid creators: the EOS R6 Mark III (Pre-order at AmazonB&H Photo VideoAdoramaCanon Direct Store) full-frame mirrorless camera and the compact RF45mm F1.2 STM lens (Pre-order at AmazonB&H Photo VideoAdoramaCanon Direct Store). Together, they signal a thoughtful evolution of Canon’s R-system—pairing pro-grade performance with portability and practical features that speak directly to photographers and videographers working across portraits, events, wildlife, sports, and social content.

At the heart of the EOS R6 Mark III is a 32.5-megapixel full-frame sensor—an uptick that brings extra detail without sacrificing speed. The camera shoots up to 40 frames per second with its electronic shutter, and it supports 20 frames of pre-continuous capture, helping you secure decisive moments that occur just before you fully press the shutter. For those who prefer traditional operation and rolling-shutter control, mechanical shutter and electronic first curtain reach up to 12 fps. Storage is configured for hybrid flexibility, with both CFexpress Type B and SD card slots enabling high-bandwidth video capture and reliable stills workflows.

Video is where the R6 Mark III pushes notably into pro territory. The camera records 7K 59.94p RAW Light internally, offering robust latitude for grading while optimizing file sizes. Creators can tap 4K at up to 119.8p for fluid slow motion, and there’s a dedicated Slow and Fast mode for quick on-the-fly speed changes. A 7K 30p “Open Gate” option unlocks the full sensor area, yielding increased vertical resolution for reframing and social-first delivery, while also providing extra room for post-stabilization. Oversampled 4K 60p/30p—drawing from the full 7K readout for 30p—keeps footage sharp and detailed, and Canon Log 2 promises up to 15 stops of dynamic range for cinematic highlight retention and nuanced shadows.

Just as important as raw specs is the camera’s handling of color, focus, and monitoring. Canon’s waveform monitoring brings broadcast-style exposure control on set, while refined white balance behavior improves consistency across mixed lighting. Autofocus benefits from Register People Priority and the Focus Accel/Decel algorithms inspired by Canon’s Cinema EOS C400 and C80 cameras, producing natural, confident focus transitions that are critical for interviews, documentary work, and narrative shooting. Altogether, the R6 Mark III lands as a versatile, travel-friendly body that can credibly cover a wedding weekend, shoot an event recap in slow motion, and then pivot to wildlife stills—all without feeling like a compromise.

Complementing the camera is the RF45mm F1.2 STM, a fresh take on the fast standard prime. At 45mm, it offers a slightly wider, more conversational perspective than the classic 50mm, aligning closely with a natural field of view and opening creative options for environmental portraits, lifestyle, and street photography. On APS-C bodies like the EOS R7 or R50, it behaves like an approximately 72mm equivalent—an appealing short-telephoto look for portraits and detail shots. Despite its bright f/1.2 aperture, the lens is notably compact and lightweight at around 346 grams, thanks to a design that employs PMo aspherical elements and a gear-type STM drive with magnetic detection for precise, efficient focusing.

The optical character is tuned for expressive rendering. Nine aperture blades create smooth, circular bokeh, and Canon’s digital lens optimizer helps control aberrations and distortions for crisp detail. A fixed rear-focusing system maintains image quality across distances, supporting consistent sharpness from close focus through infinity. With an aperture range from f/1.2 to f/16, shooters can control depth with finesse, use faster shutter speeds in low light, or keep ISO values in a cleaner range—useful for both stills and video. The fixed-length barrel enhances balance and handling, making it a practical everyday companion as well as a creative tool for low-light storytelling.

Canon plans to ship the EOS R6 Mark III in November 2025 in several configurations: body-only at $2,799.00; with the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM at $4,049.00; with the RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM at $3,149.00; and with Stop Motion Animation Firmware at $2,899.00. The RF45mm F1.2 STM lens is slated for December 2025 availability at an estimated $469.99. For hybrid creators eyeing a nimble, high-performance kit, this pairing looks poised to deliver professional results without the bulk.
