Canon EOS R6 Mark III: A Quick Look at the Latest Leak

We’re just days away from Canon’s official announcement of the EOS R6 Mark III on November 6th, but a retailer couldn’t wait and accidentally leaked some promotional materials early. They’ve since pulled everything down, but not before we grabbed some screenshots.

What We Saw

The leak included a signup page and an Instagram post showing what appears to be the R6 Mark III. Is it the real camera or just a mockup? Hard to say for certain, but either way, we know Canon cameras tend to look pretty similar from generation to generation.

The marketing copy that came with it sounds exactly like Canon’s usual style—talking about “unmatched speed,” “advanced autofocus,” and “stunning image quality.” Nothing groundbreaking in the messaging, but it does reinforce what we’ve been hearing about this camera’s positioning as a serious hybrid tool for both photos and video.

The Specs We’re Expecting

Here’s what the rumor mill has been saying about the R6 Mark III:

For Photographers:

  • 34.2MP sensor (same one used in the Cinema EOS C50)
  • 40fps continuous shooting with electronic shutter
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF II that can remember up to 100 faces
  • 6.5 stops of image stabilization
  • ISO up to 64,000

For Videographers:

  • 7K Open Gate RAW recording at 24/25fps
  • Canon Log-2 and Log-3 profiles
  • Professional codecs including XF-HEVC
  • Full-size HDMI port (thank goodness)
  • 24-bit audio recording

Something New:
There’s a new “S&F” mode on the mode dial that lets you quickly change frame rates using multipliers. Shooting at 24fps and want slow motion? Just select 0.5x to drop to 12fps. Want double speed? Hit 2x. It’s a small feature, but could be really handy for video work.

Pricing and Release

If the leaks are accurate, we’re looking at €2,899 or $2,899, with cameras shipping on November 20th—just two weeks after the announcement.

What’s Interesting Here

The fact that Canon is using the same sensor as their Cinema EOS C50 is pretty significant. It suggests they’re serious about bridging the gap between their cinema and photography lines, which could mean better color consistency if you’re using both types of cameras.

The 7K Open Gate recording is particularly noteworthy. It gives filmmakers maximum flexibility in post-production for reframing and different aspect ratios.

The Wait Is Almost Over

With only five days until the official announcement, we won’t have to wait long for confirmation. There are still a few details we’re waiting to verify—particularly the exact EVF specs—but overall, the R6 Mark III is shaping up to be a solid upgrade for hybrid shooters who need both high-quality stills and professional video capabilities.

Stay tuned for the official announcement on November 6th!
