Canon EOS R5 Mark II to Shoot 8K Video at 60p
Rumors are heating up about the anticipated Canon EOS R5 Mark II mirrorless camera. While an official announcement likely won’t happen until early 2024, potentially ahead of the CP+ show in February, prototypes are said to be in the hands of Canon’s test photographers.
According to rumors, Canon aims to reclaim the top spot in the full-frame camera market with the EOS R5 Mark II, pushing specs for both stills and video. One exciting rumor claims the camera could shoot 8K RAW video at up to 60fps. This massive frame rate boost would require additional power and cooling – which Canon may address with their patented external cooling accessory seen in recent patents.
The EOS R5 Mark II’s sensor resolution is also unclear, with rumors pointing to both 45MP and 60MP options being tested. While 60MP would allow high-res photos, 45MP may make more sense technically, allowing pixel binning for RAW and high frame rates. This middle ground resolution could also reserve space for an even higher megapixel model down the road.
4K video is also said to get a “massive” bump up to 240fps, doubling the current EOS R5‘s top 120fps. If true, this would be an incredible spec that cements Canon as a leader in mirrorless video.
With more whispers emerging about the EOS R5 Mark II, the February 2024 announcement is looking likely. But full details remain scarce for now. As the release gets closer, more concrete specs should come into focus, showing if Canon can truly reclaim the crown with this next-generation camera.
