Canon EOS R5 Mark II Rumored to Feature a 60MP Sensor ?

According to a recent report circulating on the internet, it is suggested that Canon’s upcoming professional camera EOS R5 Mark II, will feature an increased resolution of 60 megapixels, surpassing its predecessor’s 45 megapixels. This shift towards higher resolutions appears to be a trend within the full-frame camera industry, as other major players such as Nikon, Sony, and Leica have already incorporated 60 megapixels into some of their camera offerings. While the increase in resolution may not be a critical factor for us, the prospect of having more available resolution remains enticing.

It is worth noting that leaked information regarding video specifications tends to be one of the last details made public prior to product launches. Therefore, it is advised to approach such information with caution. Nonetheless, the report suggests that Canon may enhance the internal 8K shooting capabilities of the EOS R5 Mark II, potentially providing the ability to shoot 8K video at 60 fps. However, it remains uncertain whether this feature would support shooting in RAW format or not.

Furthermore, there are indications that Canon is conducting tests on the EOS R5 Mark II for the possibility of shooting 8K video at an unprecedented frame rate of 180 fps. The report does not clarify if this would require external equipment or if it could be achieved through some form of internal option with cropping. It is also worth noting that this information may pertain to other Canon products and may have been mistakenly associated with the EOS R5 Mark II. Nevertheless, it is worth considering.

In terms of cooling, the report mentions that improvements are expected in the next iteration of the EOS R5. However, the details provided are vague, making it difficult to ascertain the specific improvements or their potential impact.

Alongside the aforementioned information, The Camera Insider alludes to new “AI Autofocus capabilities” being introduced. Although the exact nature of these capabilities is not specified, it is quite probable that all camera manufacturers will continue to enhance their autofocus systems with new features and improvements.

As for the release timeline, both we and other sources anticipate the Canon EOS R5 Mark II to be unveiled sometime in the first half of 2024.
