Canon EOS R5 Mark II New Rumored Specs, Release Date in July ?

While Canon just announced the development of their flagship EOS R1 camera, many photographers are even more interested in what the R5 Mark II will bring to the table.

According to recent rumors from reliable sources, the EOS R5 Mark II is shaping up to be an incredibly capable camera:

  • 45 MP stacked sensor: The R5 Mark II is said to feature a high-resolution 45 megapixel stacked sensor. Notably, the readout speed is rumored to be even faster than the EOS R3, which should virtually eliminate rolling shutter issues.
  • Pre-burst shooting: A highly requested feature, pre-burst shooting, is expected to be included. Hopefully it will write RAW files directly to the memory card, improving on the implementation in the EOS R6 Mark II.
  • 30 fps shooting speeds: The camera will likely shoot at up to 30 frames per second, with the ability to select slower speeds via the menu system. Both mechanical and electronic shutter options will be available.
  • Improved heat management: Overheating was a complaint with the original R5, especially when shooting video. The Mark II is rumored to have a new and improved heat dissipation solution to address this.
  • Updated body design: While the overall shape will remain similar to the R5, expect to see some ergonomic improvements borrowed from the EOS R6 Mark II body.

If these rumored specs prove accurate, the EOS R5 Mark II looks to be an extremely well-rounded and capable camera. With its high-resolution sensor, fast readout speeds, pre-burst, and 30 fps shooting, it could be the ideal tool for many photographers.

Interestingly, the R5 Mark II specs beg the question of where this leaves the EOS R3 and the upcoming R1. The R5 II and R1 look poised to outperform the R3 in most aspects, with faster sensors, improved autofocus, and higher frame rates. But the R3 remains a great video tool.

The biggest open questions are around the official announcement and shipping dates for the R5 Mark II and R1. Some speculate a May 21 announcement for the R5 II, but June or July seem more likely based on the latest information. Eager photographers are hoping to get their hands on the new camera before the summer.

Until the official announcement, we can’t be 100% certain of the final EOS R5 Mark II specifications. But based on the current rumored specs, it looks to be one of the most exciting new cameras on the horizon for many photographers. The combination of resolution, speed, and advanced features could make it the go-to choice, even with a flagship EOS R1 on the way.
